KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — The Court of Appeal today awarded the family of Ahmad Sarbaini Mohamed RM213,000 in damages in their suit against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over his death while in their custody.

The appellate court also reversed a High Court ruling from last year that dismissed the family’s wrongful death suit against the agency with costs.

Ahmad Sarbaini, then a 56-year-old Selangor Customs assistant director, was found dead on the first floor of the Kuala Lumpur MACC building in Jalan Cochrane on April 6, 2011.
