Trials of high profile individuals charged under the Sedition Act 1948 ongoing

Several well-known Malaysians who have been charged with offences under the Sedition Act 1948 are currently facing trial at the Sessions Court.

 

ZUNAR

Zulkiflee Bin SM Anwarul Haque, better known as Zunar, charged with nine counts of sedition under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, had his trial commenced on 16 November 2015. It continues at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on 8 and 15 December 2015 (Criminal Sessions Court 10 / MSJ 10 ).

HARIS IBRAHIM

Haris Ibrahim’s sedition trial is ongoing at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court (Criminal Sessions Court 12 / MSJ 12). The presiding judge Mr. Shamsuddin bin Mohd Zakir has called for the accused to enter his defence and has fixed the case for continued trial on 27 January 2016. Haris is charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 for allegedly uttering seditious words in a public forum.

AZMI SHAROM

Meanwhile, law professor Dr Azmi Sharom, who has been charged for an offence under Section 4(1)(b)  of the Sedition Act 1948 and with an alternate charge under Section 4(1)(c) of the same Act, is set to stand trial beginning on 15 December 2015 at Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court (Criminal Sessions Court 10 / MSJ 10). Azmi’s trial has also been fixed to continue on 16 and 17 December 2015.
